this is more than i had ever dreamed of doing.
you only get my crappy little amateur photos here -- after all, this is just my blog. we did have a photographer of our own there -- that is, the NOSHI series did -- and i'll also get a hold of some of the photos that oberon orchestra gets. tonight was, in fact, the debut of oberon orchestra at world café live and it seems only a week or so ago that i said to my friend jeffrey, "someday i would like to knit you something to wear onstage."
i know i said "someday". i know i said "knit". it's a matter of semantics i guess. this collaborative effort - impossible without lisa myers or jeffrey, of course - is a silk/mohair and aluminum maille tunic that had my heart in my throat up until the very last second. the photos here do not do it justice -- i cannot tell you how beautiful it looked onstage. ben absolutely gasped when he saw it. and ben does not just gasp on cue, people.
how did it all come together? how can more "knitted" (that's the historical phrasing) maille come together with traditional knitting? as some of you already know (thank you for signing up, so many of you!) much will be revealed in a NOSHI series monograph - hopefully by the end of the summer. (the store will still be opening in JULY for the purchase of monographs, although this one may not be among the available at that exact date, but will be shortly after -- after all, the biggest chunk of our field work has just been realized!)
it was a fantastic show and what can i say -- i'm beside myself. it's lovely to collaborate and it's lovely when something you made is up on stage! (and when there are better pics, they'll be on the NOSHI page.) i have a lot, lot, lot to say about this piece -- i can't wait to start writing.
wait until you see how beautiful it looked in the back. i can't wait for more pictures!
